My background is:
For those of you who don't know me, I’m a 30-year-old first-time homeowner from Charlotte NC. I live here with my better half, Casey, and my beautiful stepdaughter, Piper. Casey is a realtor, private pilot, and we flip homes together on the side. Piper is a freshman cheerleader at Bluffton HS from McCracken MS. I’m a full-time Senior Designer at a creative marketing agency here in Bluffton, where I have the flexibility to work remotely or from the office. We have always loved Westbury Park and knew many years prior to purchasing our current home that this was ultimately where we wanted to be. When I’m not at the pool, (which is very rarely), I love the beach, Mexican food, taking care of the yard, spoiling my pup, traveling, and wine nights with my parents.
In high school, I played lacrosse and served as a mediator to resolve conflicts between students. After community college, I transferred to The Savannah College of Art & Design in 2012, studied abroad at SCAD Hong Kong for a quarter, and graduated in 2016 with a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Motion Graphics Design and concentration in Graphic Design. I freelanced as a Designer and Real Estate Photographer before accepting a position as Operations Manager of a custom home building company in Hilton Head. While there, I developed a passion for architecture, construction, landscaping, and interior design. I became intimately familiar with project estimating & budgeting, architectural designs & drawings, local permitting procedures, ARC guidelines, local laws, and project management. It was at this time that Casey and I executed our first home flip project in Sea Pines when I was 25. The sale broke records and raised the property value for all the other condos in the Ocean Course Villas section of Sea Pines.
I then sought a position as an in-house designer at a custom outerwear and sports apparel company based out of Hilton Head. I was solely responsible for photoshoots, managing the website, creating & scheduling regular email blasts, and designing custom apparel/graphics for the brand & its private label clients (Corona, FedEx, Ford, Lowe’s, Rockstar Energy Drink, Michelin Tires, Gas Monkey, Jeff Gordon, Casey Currie, and Matt Hoffman, among others). For the past 3 years, I’ve worked at a creative marketing agency of 200+ employees where I specialize in motion graphics animations and create designs for various mediums including social media, TV, web, point-of-sale, point-of-purchase, packaging, branding, apparel, and experiential. I’ve had the privilege of working on projects for clients such as Coca-Cola, Whirlpool, High Noon, Pennsylvania Lottery, SC Parks & Rec, Wawa, Qdoba, Moe’s, and Facebook, among many others. The brands I focus on are Peace Tea, Coca-Cola portfolio, Ménage a Trois, Sutter Home Wine, RaceTrac, affresh, and Belle Tire. While here, I’ve formed a workplace social committee post-COVID and organized many local social events and meetups as well as large scale company-wide events, which included our other offices (Atlanta, Pittsburgh, Boston, Chicago, NYC, and remote employees). I’m also actively involved in my company’s ongoing charitable partnership with the Boys & Girls Club of HH. I am very fortunate to wake up and do what I love every day at my job while also having the freedom to selectively take on personal projects that I’m passionate about, whether it be in design, photography, home improvement, or the community.
My skills and background would benefit the community of Westbury Park, ROA because:
I believe that my lifestyle and background provide a unique perspective from an under-represented demographic on the board. As a creative entrepreneur, my diverse skillsets and expertise in these specific areas would serve as an invaluable resource to the board and WBP community. Proactive solution exploration + following through are my primary goals if elected to the board, as these thought processes have been essential to success in my own career and personal pursuits. I never bring up issues without pairing them with solutions, constructive feedback, or without considering the practicality and sustainability. When making decisions, I believe it is crucial to have all the context, weigh the pros & cons, seek the facts, consider any unanticipated outcomes, and listen to the input of those who may be affected by the decision in the short-term and long-term.
Other goals I have are to assist in forming a communications committee, make the process of locating/accessing info more user-friendly for owners, and make pertinent information more readily available overall. Part of this would include brainstorming ways to make the recurring board meetings more accessible by owners, either through virtual streaming or other methods, for those in the community who cannot attend in-person. I’d like to gather feedback from owners on these ideas and discuss ways to ensure the solutions are practical, inclusive, and sustainable. I’m also willing to lead informational sessions or provide 1-on-1 troubleshooting assistance to owners on how to utilize any methods or technology that are implemented as a solution or a new process. Communicating pertinent information with an entire community in the method that each owner prefers is not an easy task, but I have a handful of ideas that could result in a profound positive effect on the way the board keeps owners informed. In effect, these solutions would nurture a more transparent environment, build trust between the board and the community, and ensure a constant peace-of-mind for owners through user-friendly methods of seeking information. I’ve also been looking into ways to make the WBP neighborhood website more efficient for owners while being easier for a board or committee to manage. I have the knowledge to implement and oversee these kinds of technical solutions that would better serve the WBP community.
The hands-on knowledge I’ve gained from numerous landscaping projects, successful home renovations, and experience working in the home building industry would also serve as an asset to the WBP community. My insights and unique perspective can assist the board in producing well-informed, practical decisions that keep the best interests of WBP owners in mind. As parent to a teenager, I can also relate to a large portion of WBP owners with children who call Westbury Park home and I will strive to represent the interests of this demographic when voting or making critical decisions. I’m very excited about the opportunity to serve my community on the board and be a voice for WBP owners. Thank you for your consideration!
